ABOUT HONEY

There is no more natural ingredient than honey. Honey does not contain any artificial and chemical additions, because it can be produced only by bees. This is a sweet, thick liquid or crystallized product, manufactured mainly from nectar that is transuded by the flowers of honey plants, but also from honey dew produced by rose aphids or European fruit lecanium scale on plants that bees collect and enrich with own substances - enzymes and juices that are produced by their glands.

People used honey in their food long before they started to raise bees. This is witnessed by the drawings in a cave near Valencia made before about 9000 years that show people taking honey from wild bees. Not only the ingredients that bees build are active, but also the plants from which bees collect nectar are significant. Many of these plants are healing by itself, and their nectar is containing medicinal substances that matures into honey by work of bees.

Honey is, unlike ordinary sugar - sucrose, completely natural, crude product of bees, which is mostly, up to 80%, consisting of other types of sugar - glucose (grape) and fructose (fruit) that our body much better and easier adopts than sucrose. More significant is that a wide range of mineral substances, ferments of hormones, vitamins and other ingredients lies in honey, which in small quantities has a positive effect on the human body and make it more resistant. Honey contains potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and some vitamins, enzymes and antioxidants. Helps to maintain health of the respiratory system, in establishment of better circulation, improves digestion and stimulates dreams...

Honey is from the past one of the best known natural preservatives, and has antibiotic properties, thanks to ingredients which are contained in plant juices, nectar and pollen that are collected by bees and carried to the hive where they also add medicinal substances from their glands and store them in the honeycombs. Our islands and coast just notably abound in such healing honey plants from which nectar is used by bees to make particularly salutary and now widely known honey of particularly good quality that is also produced in my apiary in Draga Bašćanska on the island of Krk.

SAGE HONEY

Sage honey has a light tawny color and characteristic aroma. Sage manages to grow on the barren rocky ground of our island and it blooms in May and June, flowers exceptionally dark purple. It is containing inter alia flavonides, thujone from essential oil, bitter and some other substances from the plant from whose nectar it originates. This honey is even better than most other honeys works for cold, excessive perspiration, a variety of inflammation and as a mild aphrodisiac. It is recommended to people who have problems with dry cough with colds because it allows easier ejection of slime from trachea and bronchi.
Honey from the sage is classified among the best quality honeys.

ACACIA HONEY

Acacia honey is bright, with a pleasant flavor and mild taste. Very appreciated, helps with insomnia and calms irritated nervous system. It is recommended along with the chamomile tea because it amplifies the effects of substances from the tea, and those that contain honey.
Acacia on the island of Krk blooms from late April to mid-May, white flowers arranged in clusters which intoxicating fragrance attracts bees.

FLOWER HONEY
(coastal honey from wild plants)

A lot of wild plants grow on the coast and on the Kvarner islands, which are, due to essential oils or other substances that contains, healing. Bees collect nectar from many different plants that flourish at the same time: from common heather, laurel, oregano, marjoram, wild ricola, Christ's-thorn, hyssop, olive and other Mediterranean plants. Of these bees make a very broad category of flower honeys. Precisely because of its characteristic properties and the healing properties this coastal honey is specific.

PROPOLIS
(natural antibiotic)

Propolis is a resinous substance of green-yellow to dark brown or dark red color. Has a special pleasant resinous smell and bitterish taste. Almost 80% of it melts in alcohol. Various tests have shown that the basic components of propolis are flavonoids and that it contains a number of organic acids, terpenes, aldehydes, esters, alcohols, ethers, mineral substances (especially a lot of Zn, Mn and Fe), amino acids, etc. It is accepted that the bees collect propolis primarily from the buds of poplar, osier, silver birch, chestnut...

Bees catch resin from the buds with their oral organs and draw long thread until it is detached. Then they are treating this thread with legs and place it in the cavities in which they carry pollen.

Bees are using propolis for ironing wax honeycombs, closing the holes and cracks in the beehive, fixing the frame, coating of small animals or insects found in the beehive so that they do not decompose in it... It therefore serves as a disinfectant instrument in the honeycomb cells and in the beehive generally. Propolis works against germs, fungi, viruses, anti-inflammation, and has an anesthetic effect, stimulates regeneration of tissues, increases the immune activity of the organism.

It can be used for internal use: in the natural form it is used as a gum to strengthen the gums and anti-inflammation. As a tincture it is consumed by itself or mixed with honey or sugar (5 -15 drops on the spoon of honey or sugar) and for outdoor use: for coating wounds and bruises (relieves pain).

It is successfully applied for curing skin diseases, psoriasis, calluses removal, treatment of burns, in gynecology, dentistry, treatment of respiratory system...

POLLEN
(flower powder)

Pollen is the bee product that bees collect from flowers that attract insects, and bring it to the hive in the baskets that they have on the last pair of legs. They put those clots into honeycomb cells where other bees are classifying them, imploding them with their heads and suffuse with honey.
Pollen color is different, depending on the types of plants from which bees collect it. Its composition is also different, which depends on the place of beekeeping and annual period. Some things in pollen are constant, although not in the same amount. The most important ingredient of pollen are the proteins. There are present in pollen in 20 - 40%.
They are composed of 20 amino acids that are necessary to the human organism for the formation of proteins.
Pollen is rich in vitamins, therefore, is considered to be vitamin concentrate and successfully operates in the treatment of many diseases.
Content of mineral substances depends on the type of pollen and is regularly 6 times greater than in honey. The most important minerals in pollen are potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, copper and cobalt.
There are about 2 - 4% fats in pollen. It has been proved that the pollen has 12 fatty acids which must be added to the man because he can not synthesize them. A damaged liver and skin diseases appear because of their lack (eczema creation).

- CONSUMATION OF POLLEN

  • chewing the clots directly
  • taking pollen melted in milk, juice or similar

- DOSAGE

We must not cook pollen because it loses its active properties, but can be added to the hot fluid (up to 500 C). Can be taken once or several times daily during or out of meals, and the best is in the morning or for lunch. Minimum duration of therapy is one month. This natural and very salutary bee product in larger quantities is kept in freezers, and what we use in the refrigerator because it is easily volatile product so it's shelf life is 1 year.

- W A R N I N G

Pollen or flower powder can be taken only by persons that are not allergic to that product.

COMB HONEY

Comb honey has priority for the use in relation to extracted honey. It, together with young small covers in itself, has antibacterial, antiprotosoic, antimycotic, antiallergic and anti-inflammation effect on the human body and therefore its use is of the priceless importance for human health. Chewing wax mass with honey is useful for the mucous membrane of all organs for breathing. Therefore it is recommended that this honey is used preferably daily. Special attention is recommended in diseases of inflammation of oral cavity, sinuses infections, colds, tonsillitis, nasal cavity inflammation, sore throat...

HONEY PREPARATION

Honey preparation is containing more bee products: honey, comb honey, pollen, propolis and gelee royal. Product is particularly useful in strengthening the body resistance primarily in children and the elderly persons.

PROPOLIS RESIDUE

Once the propolis tincture is strained, there remains a residue of the propolis, which is very effective at treating nipples and corns (blisters).

PROPOLIS CREAM

It has beeswax, olive oil, propolis tincture, and a neutral background for the cream in its composition. Mixed is generally used for skin infection.

HONEY BRANDY
(mead)

Honey brandy is a drink of very pleasant taste, which is prepared from the best kinds of honey (flower, acacia etc.) with the addition of medicinal plants. After fermentation of several months, the extraordinary quality of this honey brandy is achieved.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT BEE AND HONEY

  • bees generate honey in the same way for at least 150 million years
  • bees must visit the flower around 100,000 times to collect 1 kg of honey
  • honey cannot still be produced industrially
  • in order to generate 1 kg of honey by processing 3 kg of nectar, bees need to visit 7 500,000 flowers of red clover or 2,000,000 flowers of acacia
